Initially funded in 2018 under the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) of New Jersey, from the Office of the Attorney General of New Jersey, the BRAVE programprovides comprehensivecrime victim services to better address trauma for female crime victims. BRAVE engages those for whom access to services has been a barrier; as well as address factors pertaining to victimization, trauma and substance abuse; with a focus on sexual assault; IPV, domestic violence (DV); and human trafficking. Facilitated access and retention support maximizes our tailored menu of supportive services, with evidence-based practices employed to address issues of our clients. We provide transitional housing, case management, primary health care; academic and job development; job placement; as well as substance abuse/mental health supportive services. Under BRAVE, we also provide access to safe and appropriate emergency housing; individual, and family and group counseling. BRAVE strives to increase the safety, social and emotional well-being and self-sufficiency of female crime victims, helping them build permanent connections with families, communities, and other positive social networks.
REAL House Inc. has the only licensed female Halfway houses in Essex County. We specialize in dealing with Drug Court clients and provide the buffer for those WFNJ/SAI clients ready to take the next steps toward reintegration into the community. At our Halfway House facilities clients will work extensively one on one with a member of our dedicated counseling staff to ensure that they receive the case management and treatment services that fit their specific needs. The length of stay at the Halfway House is generally 9 months.
There are two Halfway houses operating under the REAL House umbrella of treatment services. One is located in Bloomfield, NJ and the other is in downtown Newark. The Newark facility is one of the newest Halfway houses. It was opened in February of 2014 and is a 17 bed facility. Both locations are convenient to public transportation making job searching a breeze.
One of the most important aspects of any substance abuse recovery program is the clinical treatment clients receive. At REAL House Inc. we believe in an integrated, encompassing method of treatment that explores not only drugs related problems but addresses life issues and builds life skills for the future. Our goal is not only to keep our clients sober while they are part of our program, but for them to extend their recovery when they make it out on their own and spread our message of hope and perseverance. Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) clients graduate into our Outpatient Program (OP). If deemed necessary the IOP treatment may be extended for additional time to ensure the client has developed adequate coping mechanisms. REAL HOUSE Inc. provides shelter to homeless women in New Jersey, U.S.A. In our two large houses, located in Montclair, New Jersey, we house women who have nowhere else to turn. We are not a typical homeless shelter. We provide a home-like environment, complete with bedrooms, large kitchens, dining areas, living rooms etc. Along with supplying shelter, our residents receive treatment for substance abuse (if warranted), job training, coping skills workshops, and life planning to assist them in becoming self-sufficient. In 2018, RHI acquired the renowned Flynn House in Elizabeth, NJ. The Flynn House was one of the first halfway houses in New Jersey—circa 1961. Currently, under the control of RHI, the Flynn House provides sober living housing and services to males in Union County.
Funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor—Veterans Employment and Training Service, the VAST project is one of two projects funded in the State of New Jersey to provide supportive services to veterans and their families, and the only one funded to empower female veterans, and address chronic homelessness among this group. VAST is structured to provide centralized access to a strong supportive network of comprehensive wrap-around services to encourage and enhance stability for no less than 80 female veterans; and recently male veterans and their families; to include emergency housing assistance, permanent housing through HUD-VASH, case management, behavioral healthcare (individual/group/families), domestic violence, financial literacy, healthcare, health and wellness activities; career placement, supported employment (job retention), transportation, legal services, access to childcare and development; linkage to VA Benefits, and more.
